Where Texas Light Becomes Art

I create mosaic and acrylic abstract art inspired by the textures, light, and movement of Texas landscapes and life.

How It Began

I came to art later in life — and that's exactly the point. After earning a degree in Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin, I spent decades telling other people's stories. It wasn't until 2014 that I picked up my first tesserae and began telling my own.

Mosaic found me through books, workshops, and a willingness to learn by doing. I was drawn to its inherent honesty: each fragment is complete in itself, yet only meaningful as part of a whole. In 2022 I added acrylic abstraction to my practice — a discipline that gave me freedom to let color and form move intuitively, without constraint.

Today my studio sits on the North Shore of Lake Travis, where the limestone bluffs, cedar hillsides, and wide Texas sky are a constant source of inspiration. Some pieces begin with a shard of smalti glass and grow outward. Others start with a wash of pigment and find their edges later. All of them begin with the shore.

The Process

01

Gathering

I collect materials inspired by the Lake Travis landscape — glass, stone, and found objects — alongside pigments that echo the warm terracotta, sage, and turquoise of the Texas Hill Country.

02

Composing

Each piece is composed using my own photographs, sketches, and travels as inspiration.

03

Building

In mosaic work, fragments are set one by one. In acrylic, layers accumulate over days or weeks. Both require patience and a willingness to let go.

04

Finishing

The final stage is about restraint — knowing when a piece is complete. I seal, mount, and document each work before it leaves the studio.

Handcrafted

Every piece is made entirely by hand in my North Shore studio.

One of a Kind

No prints, no reproductions. Each work is a singular original.

Place-Rooted

The North Shore of Lake Travis is the constant source and subject of my work.
